The main power jet may be clogged or the fuel level in the bowl is too low, fuel filter clogged, port to fuel pump from crank case may be loose. The Engine Leaks Oil. One of the most pressing problems with John Deere 1020 tractors is engine leaks. The oil seeps from the crankcase and makes a mess underneath the tractor. Used my John Deere 4300 3 times today with no problems. A half hour later I went to start it up but all it would do is crank over but it would not start. I have plenty of gas and I bled the fuel system by loosening the bolt that my owners manual said to loosen and cranked over the engine to make sure there was no air in the system. .
